The Okinawan 3-stringed guitar, the sanshin, has more than just a unique sound; it also has a rich cultural history behind it. With us, you'll learn not only how to play and sing traditional Ryukyuan classical music, but the meaning behind the lyrics and the history of the pieces.
Students will play and sing both traditional "Koten" and popular folk "Minyo" styles, explore the meaning and history behind each piece, and have the option for accreditation through the Ryukyu Classical Music Afuso-ryu Genseikai.

A sanshin is surprisingly affordable! You can find quality sanshins for as low as $100-$200. If you don't want to commit to buying one and want to try out and see if sanshin is right for you, we have sanshins available for you to borrow until you make your decision.
